--It's hot out there, come record! Summer dates are filling up!

Spent the last week working with Okkervil River and producer John Congleton, it was a pretty amazing experience for me! I'm Anxious to hear the finals.

We've had the pleasure of working with some great acts over the past few months, including The Jungle Rockers, Sad Accordions, Stone River Boys, Voxtrot, and many more.

As always, feel free to send us an email with any questions about scheduling a session for this fall.

It's a shame that I'm inside on the computer when it's such a beautiful day outside here in Austin...

SXSW was a busy time for us this year! We hosted a live broadcast for Radio K out of Minneapolis, and were fortunate to have a great group of artists in for some live sessions, including Superdrag, Julie Doiron, These Arms Are Snakes, Maserati, All The Saints, and many more. Read all about it here.

We are now booking for this summer. Please contact us with any questions you might have...

Another year is upon us! Time to play catch-up with the studio website updates...

October saw George Reiff pop in to produce some sessions for The Tiny Tin Hearts, as well as Clay Berkes. Michael Landon finished up some work on a new Brazos album, tracking some vocals with Martin Crane.

In November we had Jason Martin (Starflyer 59) come in from Riverside, CA to engineer/produce the new Meryll album. Later that month I finished tracking for Leo Rondeau, and did some more work with {{{Sunset}}}. Alex Dupree stopped in to record one final song for his 3rd album.

In December, Dark Water Hymnal came in to record & mix a new full-length album. Later that month, The Carrots recorded & mixed an EP for a release in Spain on Elefant Records. Houston's Tambersauro came in to track a new EP for release on Esotype records.

To ring in the new year (wow, what an over-used phrase), I'm working on a new album with Seattle's Tiny Vipers.

The Sword dropped in during an especially rainy and muddy day to track a few songs. They are currently on tour with none other than Metallica!

{{{Sunset}}} came in last week to do a bunch of tracking and mixing. Here is a photo to prove it!

Michael did some mixing for Royal Tongue and Crooks.

Greg Klinginsmith came in the other day and made it look easy! A big thank-you to him, as he was able to make repairs to 6 channels on the Quad Eight!

Time for an update. Adam Raven has been working with Jabarvy for a few months. The guys have tracked an entire album and are now in the mixing stage. These guys have been working long and hard on this album and are getting excited to finish it up!

We also started a record with Leo Rondeau that is turning out to be pretty cool! All the basic tracks have been cut to tape, and all that remains are a few harmonies and mixing. We're just about finished mixing a full-length album for Michelle Jamail as well.

Balmorhea has about wrapped up their 3rd full-length album. We finished the tracking a couple weeks back with some vocal overdubs from Jesy Fortino of Tiny Vipers.

I've been adding to the gear collection here at Premium one step at a time. This month I picked up a Beyer M69 and M160, as well as a DW Fearn VT-1. I've been wanting one of those mic pres for 6 years!!

October and November are filling up fast. If you're looking to book some time, send me an email from the 'Contact' page! Enjoy this cool weather!

It was high time I posted an update. All the way down from Winnipeg, we are fortunate to have Western States in the studio all week! Everything is being tracked and mixed to tape, as I have strict orders to use no computers, plugins, or digital effects. The band did the basic tracking together (drums, bass, piano, acoustic, vocals, electric guitar) and we just finished up the overdubs last night. Two days for mixing, and they'll be headed home. Here are a couple pictures I scanned this morning, but hopefully I'll post more once they get home and send me their photos.

Michael began tracking a new album for Brazos a few weeks ago that is turning out pretty cool. They came in the other day and did some horn overdubs with David Chenu. You gotta love those Coles ribbon mics!

Quiet Company came in a couple weeks ago to record drums, bass, and electric guitars for a new album. Producer/Engineer Charlie Vela (The December Drive) came along to work the session.

Here are some photos from tracking Bruce Robison's album "The New World."

I just found a scanner on Craigslist the other day, so there will be more updates and photos to come.

We finally got around to scanning a few pictures from a few recent sessions.

Wow, I need to get better about updating this thing. We've had a lot going on this Spring. Trying to battle the hail along with our fellow Austin-ites. In March we got a chance to record and mix a new Howling Hex album with Neil Michael Hagerty for Drag City. Later that month we finished a record for Bruce Robison as well an album for his brother Charlie.

Michael has been busy as well, doing some work with The Gourds, V-Flo, The Chickpeas, and Crooks.

Oh yeah. Our control room is more spacious than ever now that we got the old RCA mic pres out of that weathered road case, and into the outboard rack. You know you want to come check it out...

I got home from the Meryll tour and found that Michael did in fact fix the water cooler! It was down for a couple weeks, so there was no easy way to drink all our bottled water, resulting in a 50 gallon stockpile of the stuff. I'm slowly chipping away at it during my fast from Dr. Pepper.

While I was gone, Michael tracked an entire album's worth of material with The Gourds, and spent some time in the studio with Gaelic Storm. Today I did some work with Houston's Golden Cities, rounding out the trifecta of bands that start with the letter 'G'.

We had the chance to do some more work with Alex Dupree & The Trapdoor Band for a tour EP that they are taking out on the road with them.

I'm about done mixing Chris Brecht's new album. I really like the sound of this thing. Adam Odor tracked it over at Bismeaux and it has a real timeless feel. Lots of bleed, lots of excitement. We re-cut the vocals for one of the songs, and actually printed the mix live to 1/2" tape as Chris cut his vocal! Fun times...

The 16-track tape head is also keeping busy as I've been tracking more material for Bruce Robison these days. Hopefully you guys will be hearing it soon!

Some of the stuff that came through at the end of 2007 has either been released or is set to come out soon.

Balmorhea recently released their new full-length album that we recorded and mixed. It came out on Western Vinyl records, and has been receiving some positive reviews. Even Pitchfork had to chime in.

And we can't forget The Sword. We tracked all the drums, some guitars and bass, and mixed the album here at Premium. This poster says it all.

Does anyone know how to fix a water cooler? We've got a small leak between the water jug and the heater. Michael might have fixed it already, but I thought this was worth a shot!

We've finished up mixing with The Sword and the album has been sent off to mastering. We got a chance to use our 2" 16-track heads (thanks to Greg Klinginsmith!). If you're in Austin, they've got a show tonight at Emo's if you're looking for something to do.

Last week La Snacks stopped in and recorded 6 songs for a new EP. We cut the whole band live, then did a few overdubs. We got a chance to use the new RMG 911 2" tape for the first time. You have to keep an eye on the tape path, as things would get a little dirty every now and then, but it held up OK. We did all the tracking to tape, and mixed down to the 1/2" deck. Other highlights included an auto-panned bass guitar, a whammy bar falling inside a guitar, and a 30" pizza. We've got photographic proof of the pizza.

(Robert Segovia of La Snacks)

Michael has been in and out of the studio throughout December with Moth Fight. I'm excited for people to hear this stuff. Some of the sounds these guys are getting are fun, unique, and sometimes just plain wacky. That's a good thing. Oh yeah, those glasses have no lenses in them.

(Engineer Michael Landon & Kevin Adickes of Moth Fight)

I've been working with Chris Brecht on his full-length album. The tracking was done at Bismeaux a while back, and we finished the overdubs last week.

November 6th, 2007

Is there anyone else out in Austin enjoying this cold weather as much as we are? Local metal favorite The Sword was in last week tracking drums for a new album on Kemado Records. We also had the chance to do some work for Teenage Cool Kids out of Denton.

October 10th, 2007

This past weekend local instrumental act Balmorhea holed up in the studio to lay down tracks for their forthcoming full-length album to be released in early 2008 by Western Vinyl (The Dirty Projectors, Bexar Bexar).

This week we've got Ricky Broussard & Two Hoots and a Holler mixing a full-length album with Producer Jim Diamond.
